We’re excited to share that our PhD researcher Volha Auchynnikava has published a new study on physical activity during pregnancy and its link to maternal and fetal heart rate variability (HRV).

In 95 pregnant women, the study found that habitual physical activity—whether during work or leisure—did not affect HRV at rest. However, leisure-time activity was associated with better insulin sensitivity. Lower HRV in both mother and fetus was linked to poorer maternal metabolic health, and male fetuses showed higher HRV than females.

These findings provide new valuable insights into how physical activity and maternal health are connected during pregnancy.
