We’re excited to share that our PhD researcher Nina Goll just published her latest research in Appetite: “Influence of maternal metabolism on neonate eating behaviour.”
This study explored associations between maternal metabolism and neonate eating behavior at two weeks postpartum. We found that pregnancy weight gain — especially in the second trimester — was the major determinant of neonate eating behavior at this very early age.
Key insights include that mothers with increased (compared to reduced) weight gain during pregnancy rated their neonates’ food responsiveness higher, and that mothers with recommended (compared to reduced or increased) weight gain rated the neonates’ satiety responsiveness higher.
Thank you to Nina’s supervisor Manfred Hallschmid, all co-authors, and the women who participated in our study!
